  • Ye Olde Men and the Sea

They have been at it for most of their lives. Day upon day they hear the shore break calling their names. So they paddle out and spend their retirement with floating seagulls above them, breaching whales in the horizon and sometimes the odd glimpse beneath the surface of a shadow from – what might be or might not be – a white shark. Back in the days when it all began they would surf the waves with fishermen’s tales of monstrous sea creatures in the back of their heads. As they have grown old imagination is no longer as vivid as it used to be, nor is the strength in their bodies. But they are still out there when conditions are good - riding the waves of False Bay day upon day.
